I think you've come to the wrong place to get talked out of a tractor. When I started reading the messages and asking questions, I was sitting on the fence between a big mower or a compact tractor (TC25D); I'm going to get the 25D this fall. I mow 4 open acres and have a long driveway to maintain.

Maybe a 29D.

Bill is right. This isn't the place to come to be talked out of a tractor. I think we have all been in this position at some time or other, whether to get a big lawn tractor or a small compact? If you only have a couple of acres to mow it's tough to justify the cost of a small compact so it comes down to what you "want" and not what you "need". If you get a large garden tractor and start adding on options and impliments the cost builds up pretty fast to be pretty close to a compact and the compact is a far better machine and because of the size of implements that it can handle, it will cut your mowing time. It's just a lot more versatile and robust although a friend just got a subcompact, a Kubota BX series, and loves it. I'm not sure what the JD or NH equivalents are but it looks like a pretty neat little machine and it seems to fit between the L&G tractors and the compacts. Check them out. ....

All,

I recently purchased the TC33D W/SS/Loader/72" Mid mount mower, only about($600-$1200 more than 25d and 29d). I mow 3 acres and the time it hase save me is incredible. I used to mow for about 8-10 hours on my 46" mtd mower. When the grass got too high It took even longer. I can now mow everything in 2 hours and it does an awesome job. I recently have 40 yds of mulch delivered and we move it around this weekend. I would have been weeks using a wheel barrow. The cost is high but having my weekends back is great. I can even get home and mower everything during the week. If I had tried this on my smaller mower, I would have mowed every day and by the time I was done the first part would need mowing again.

Just my 2cents.

Mark ....
